Maybe they should change it so that when you first pickup a dye, a blue help pop-up box should tell you what they generally are worth, appox only of course. Like this:
"You have picked up a dye. To use it on your armor or weapons simply double click on the dye and then click on the item you wish to apply it to. All dyes have only one use, even if you mix different dyes together. Dyes are worth different amounts in the player market. Check at a Dye trader before selling them"
Sadly it will always be the case where there are people spamming in Pre-searing trying to take advantage of people.

Agreed. I have always thought it a bit misleading that when you mouseover dye it says 'value: 1 gold'. When you've first started the game you have absolutely no idea what anything is worth unless somebody tells you, but if they don't... you're screwed. I fell for the same trick when I first started the game, selling three different dyes for 100g in one go thinking they were otherwise worthless. With nobody there to tell me differently, I thought I'd got a good bit of gold for something worthless. Boy was I irritated when I saw the dye trader! Back then, most dye was worth a fortune.

Interesting read
I've met a few people intending to keep their characters in Pre permanently, but before the glitch. If i'm bored I might be tempted to start a Pre-only character

Bit of thread necromancy there eh?
pre is interesting, but the world is too small. My first character took a week to finish all the quests, my second did it in three sittings, my third is four hours old and most of the way through...
And after you finish all the quests, you're going to be at least level 7, maybe 9. At that point half the critters in pre earn no XP, and you start running out of things to go after unless you can find people to let you over the wall.
It does seem like dye drops more often in pre, and one could turn a profit by 'farming' dye in pre and then taking it to post, dropping it with the xunlai, deleting the character, and repeating - but that's the kind of 'anal retentiveness' I'm not willing to deal with.
pre does have the best looking armor until you maybe get to the '15k' stage - which means that once you leave pre you've got a long wait with an ugly looking character...
pre also seems more social. Ascalon has people chatting rather than spamming most of the time. Post has been lost to spammers and you can't really say it has any sort of community anymore, but I've seen characters at level 1 just sit for hours in front of the gate in pre doing dance routines and chatting. A bit silly, but at least it is some form of community.

"Economy" in Pre is limited to:
Collector Wanted Items (The most of which are Spider Legs, and Unnatural Seeds)
Some people spam sale quest items, like bear pelt.
Weapons make up like .001% of what is sold.
And Dyes.
And Dyes is even cutting it - because 99.99% of Buyers are coming from Post Searing knowledge, trying to make a buck, either from pre, or taking them to post.

I will never understand why anyone would buy a bear pelt, or any other pre quest item. They are so easy to get.
I took out a series of bears today with a, at the beginning, level 2 mesmer. After the first pelt I just left them behind and 'farmed' for XP off the rest as a way to get to Wizard's Folley.
Only reason bears ever presented any problem to me with my first character was that I didn't know about the 'aggro circle' and would run around until I had a mob of them on me.
Even 'over the wall' can be done with a low level character if you avoid aggro... but a bear pelt is one of the easiest 'battle quests' to complete, you can do it on 'accident' just trying to get to the next outpost. Likewise with all of the collector armors. Just walking to the collector will give all its items more times than not.

hey, ignoring my opinion?
pretty ignorant, really, considering i know easily as much as these people 'bout the game I do have actual knowledge, I do have 2k hours playtime, and i read a lot, gg.
there is no pre-searing economy to speak of, at all (bar all those pathetic dye scammers), the trades for the big items are often conducted OUTSIDE of presearing for a start (like, 5 people wanting to spend all their cash on leaked items in presearing is no economy, it's a niche group of people who think of themselves as "elite" LOL) (go and check WTB forums for relavent posts), thus that's a post-searing/the real economy, if anything, trading for pre-searing items...
yeah, you really just /ignored me after reading that.

Yes, it is possible to hit level 20 in pre-searing. There have been numerous threads of people posting that. Old news.
Yes, it was an old bug. But people smuggled in 10 item bags and lots of post-searing items. I don't think any of those accounts got banned or whiped, so I'm sure there are still quite a few people running around with max weapons and greens.
Here's just one example: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ht=Pre-searing

For dumb reasons I'm not gonna bother explaining, I just got a Seige Turtle Minipet in presearing. Anyone have ideas on what it could sell for in pre relative to post? I, of course, would only have interest in keeping it in presearing in order to move whatever I get from it into post. Could it possibly be worth more in presearing black dye than gold in post? Or there is also the possibility of trading the pet in pre, and taking gold in post, if that trade could be worked out/trusted.
I dont mean to turn this into a WTS post, so keep the comments related to general presear economy introducing minipets, otherwise, PM me or find me in game.
Any thoughts?

Personally I like spending loads of time in presear. I don't have to share my drops, I don't have to share my gold and dye is easier to come by there if you know where to hunt it. However I have never kept one there longer than lvl 13. Needed the money it had stored on it
Usually I earn tons of gold and give it to the newbies and tell them not to spend much of it till they post.
For me personally its easier to make money in pre for low levels than it is in post - again you don't have to share your drops and so forth.
2mesmer lvl 5 taking out the charr camp... IT TOOK HOURS lol! But it was fun and we ended at lvl 7 and 8. Got 1black, 3 silver, a butt load of charr hides and carvings. ^_^

i believe I know what the person is getting at and that is there are no dye or rune traders in pre as to the economy and those selling on the trade chat.I will say this that farming is better in pre although if you get say 250 pieces of wood you can't make parch out of it.

pre searing was awesome maybe they should extend it and make it into a pre searing game where u can see all of ascalon and tryia before the searing lol.
By the way Im just dreaming.

Actually you had to go to observers mode first before being able to enter the guild hall. I tried it just before it was fixed, only to say "Lol, i'm in the guild hall." in guild chat with my pre character.

The four Charr bosses at Northlands are lvl 10 ->lvl15 characters get exp from them = lvl16 characters
The monsters also get exp from killing players, npcs or pets.
so after getting killed a number of times (, its depending on your (or pet)lvl and the monsters lvl) of yourself by a monster, the monster would gain a lvl (and repeat). This is extremly taxing and IMHO boring. For instance a lvl 10 monster killing a lvl 16 would need to do it 300 times or so (at least im told it feels like it)
saving all quest to lvl 16 get you close to lvl 17 (you get adequate skills from starting quests, but you dont have to finish them)

Still those items from the glitch are still in pre-seering. Purple items are generated in pre seering & drops frequent in Northlands.
It is a two man effort two charm a bear in pre-seering, there are some threads in the forum on the exact strategy to do it

So would adding a Dye Trader to pre. It won't happen, and it would sort of mess with the pre-economy.. But it would be worth it, so the newbies wouldn't lose so much gold to the scammers.
|
How about adding a dye trader whos prices in pre are not affected by all the other dye traders?

whoever said do quests right off, that's backwards, conserve quests, quests are a static value, monster exp isn't
